Timon Akii
Timon Akii, is a Nairobi-based visual artist and Fine Arts student at Kenyatta University. His artistic practice centers on portrait painting, with a growing exploration of expressive abstraction as a means of conveying emotion, identity, and visual rhythm. Rooted in portraiture, Timon’s work prioritizes emotional presence over perfect likeness. Through the use of color, contrast, texture, and form, he captures mood, movement, and the inner life of his subjects. His approach allows portraits, to function as emotional spaces where feeling, memory, and expression take precedence over realism. Influenced by African visual culture and everyday lived experience, Timon’s work reflects a strong interest in conserving cultural expression and documenting ways of being. Alongside representational painting, he experiments with abstraction to push beyond observation, balancing structure with intuition as he develops his personal visual language. His practice exists at the intersection of tradition and experimentation, where storytelling, identity, and emotion are explored through paint.
